The Thornhill Reds got up early, and hung on for a 7-6 opening night home win against the Martingrove Sox at Bishops Cross on a chilly Wednesday night. The Reds took a 5-0 lead to the eighth inning, where the Sox strung together a few hits and capitalized on a couple Thornhill errors, stranding the tying run at third base in the top of the ninth.

Mack Major(1-0) worked three scoreless frames for the win, powered by a Russ McGibbon home run, which had the Reds up 4-0 after two innings of play. Thornhill starter Jaz Shergill tossed three scoreless as well, fanning three and allowing just one hit.

Chris Gott(0-1) took the loss for Martingrove, who were led on offense by former Red and Bulldog Paul Wilson, who had a 3-5 night.
